Founded in 2022, ASMITAA is driven by a deep commitment to preserving India's textile legacy, regardless of its provenance or value. Every piece, no matter how humble, holds meaning that deserves to be acknowledged and safeguarded.

At ASMITAA, we document, digitize, and preserve India’s textile heritage through a dynamic digital archive that safeguards not only the artistry of each textile, but also the deeply personal narratives behind it. Alongside technical documentation, we record the stories, relationships and experiences that give each piece its meaning, creating a lasting record of both the object and the memories it carries.

Because preservation extends beyond documentation, ASMITAA also provides a dedicated conservation space for family-owned textiles requiring expert care to survive for generations. At the same time, we empower individuals and families through training and resources that help them care for the collections they cherish.

Through this work, ASMITAA seeks to ensure that India's textile heritage remains a living legacy—remembered, studied, shared, and cherished by families, communities, researchers, and future generations alike. Every textile that enters ASMITAA becomes more than an object in an archive; it becomes a lasting record of a life once lived, preserved so that future generations may come to know not only what their ancestors wore, but who they were.
