2025

We are pleased to announce the addition of the exhibition catalog Abhivyakti – Expressions of the Loom from the Vault of a Visionary to our permanent library collection at ASMITAA HOUSE. The publication is available for in-house reference during our regular opening hours.

Published by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, the catalog features detailed documentation of 65 textile objects showcased during the exhibition. The collection was thoughtfully organized into six curatorial zones - North, East, West, South, Northeast, and Central – bringing together major craft traditions from across India. Accompanying the documentation are six essays that reflect on how each zone shaped different dimensions of the life and sensibilities of Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan.

This publication serves as a lasting archival record of the exhibition, offering in-depth insight into both the materiality of the textiles and the conceptual framework of the show. It honors the monumental legacy of Dr. Vatsyayan by featuring rarely seen pieces from her personal textile collection revealing intimate layers of aesthetic sensitivity, cultural engagement, and lived experience that extended beyond her widely established social and moral stature.
