This exhibition honours the monumental legacy of a visionary, celebrates the variety and brilliance of Indian textiles, and reminds us of their fragility and emotional significance. By bringing these textiles out of the vault and into public eye, the exhibition seeks to inspire a renewed sense of custodianship – urging us all to look again at the textile treasures within our homes with both admiration and responsibility and pass them on – well preserved and honoured.

Throughout our lives, the textiles we gather become part of our identity. They hold our stories carrying with them memories, values, and emotional connections. The textile collection of Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan is one such story – a testament to her refined sensibility, her deep rooted engagement with India’s cultural traditions, and her belief in the power of safeguarding heritage.

Dr. Vatsyayan’s relationship with textiles was not merely aesthetic – it was an intimate, intellectual and spiritual dialogue with tradition. In her physical absence, this collection becomes not only a treasure but a responsibility.
